Los Muertos Chestplate
A spectacular statement piece, the Los Muertos Chestplate from Weapon of Choice by Laura Shrewsbury is heavily jeweled and loaded with Catholic diaspora symbolism.
The black lace base has a red embroidered heart, framed by teal gemstones in the shape of a flaming heart.
To American eyes, the sacred hearts and colorful stones are hallmarks of the Mexican celebration of “Dia de Los Muertos.” But many European countries including Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Southern France have all incorporated the bright colors and Catholic symbols into their folk art.
Every Chestplate is hand made by me in my New Mexico studio, one at a time.
